Transformation Efforts

As we imagine a new way of orienting our immigration law rooted in justice, we must push for true transformation and demand the full protection of the human rights of all immigrants.

  1. Enact new immigration laws that offer immediate legal protections, including the right to adequate shelter, food, healthcare, and legal counsel; a safe, obtainable, and supported pathway to citizenship for all young people who have immigrated into the country, are newly arriving, or are attempting migration; and federally abolish all laws that criminalize migration.

  2. Investment must be made in communities disproportionately harmed and torn apart by cycles of criminalization of migration throughout the history of the United States. These investments should include community developments funds, housing, education, health, and economic development, including direct cash transfers.

  3. Dedicate federal, state, local, and private funds in neighborhood and community-based organizations led by immigrant communities, particularly Black, Brown, Indigenous, and LGBTQ folks, to create immigration hubs around the country for youth and young adults. These hubs should offer comprehensive support and services needed to access housing, legal aid, and economic and educational opportunities while on the pathway to citizenship.
